Daimler Truck North America has introduced a cutting-edge Backup Alert System for their Western Star Vocational Trucks, enhancing safety and efficiency for truck operators. This innovative technology provides real-time alerts to drivers, preventing potential accidents during reversing maneuvers. By leveraging advanced sensors and intelligent algorithms, Daimler's Backup Alert System significantly reduces the risk of collisions, improving overall fleet safety and productivity.
Interactive Touchscreen Display
The Interactive Touchscreen Display is now available across all Vocational and Medium Duty Models, including 47X and 49X. Boasting a 7-inch touchscreen, it offers a plethora of features such as Bluetooth connectivity, AM/FM/WX & Sirius XM Radio, and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for seamless navigation. Equipped with a USB-C connection for charging and data transfer, it seamlessly integrates with cab mic and steering wheel controls, enhancing convenience and accessibility for drivers.
Backup Alert System for Vocational Trucks
The Backup Alert System includes a factory backup camera and reverse proximity sensor. Available on 47X and 49X models, it seamlessly integrates with the factory-installed touchscreen when the vehicle is in reverse. With options for single camera prep, the system allows for flexibility in body design, providing two harness lengths for relocation (Standard Length End of Frame or Optional 15-Foot Harness). The backup camera integrates with the factory installed touchscreen and is configurable with reverse signal as well.
Reverse Proximity Sensor
The Backup Alert System also offers a factory installed camera and proximity sensor, located at the end of the frame, which provides added visual and audible warnings of objects behind the vehicle, reducing upfit time. The Alert System offers user configurability through the display settings, allowing drivers to activate or deactivate the sensor as needed. Audio alerts are displayed on-screen, while color-coded distance indications (green, yellow, red) provide visual feedback. Additionally, drivers are alerted if the sensor is obstructed or non-functional due to conditions like ice, mud, snow, or vehicle speed exceeding 10 km/h.
Prioritizing Job Site Safety
When asked about these additional features, Aaron Scates, the vice president of vocational and medium duty market development at DTNA stated, “This is an important milestone in our pursuit of job site safety, as we now offer what should quickly become the new standard in equipment to improve overall operator experience.” The backup alert system is a true testament to Daimlers commitment to excellence and driver safety, ensuring less distractions and more visibility.
